EASY SOFTWARE TO CONTROL YOUR Z-RAY

What easy-to-use software is available to control my Z-RAY system?

There's so many!

A widely-used and completely free choice, that runs on Windows, Apple, and Linux - is QLC+. Basic use, via the 'simple desk' interface is very straightforward and it's been regularly used by Think Radio. QLC+ also has a wide range of user-customisable features.

A well-regarded commercial product is ENTTEC's EMU.

EMU is a great piece of software, and runs well on Windows and Apple (not Linux), with a very professional looking interface, and many nice and easy-to-learn features.

You will probably find the basic no-licence-fee version is more than enough to control your Z-RAY's.

However EMU does require the use of one of their hardware interfaces (such as the ENTTEC DMX USB PRO - a very widely-used more-or-less industry-standard interface) - so this will be a one-time cost associated with using EMU.

For fans of Cycling 74's MAX, we have also experimented with using their now much-improved serial object - but we would stress that MAX is really an option for very keen experimenter/coders.

Finally, for the quite adventurous, and Windows only (although we have had success running it via Parallels on MacOS) - is Lightjams! This is a truly unique interface, that takes some getting used to - but actually marries-up very well with Z-RAY's "set up your lighting anywhere" approach.

The above are just a few examples of the huge range of DMX lighting control software available. Much of it is non-commercial and/or free to download and try out.

We haven't as yet found any DMX software that doesn't work Z-RAY, but we simply can't test every combination of everything.
