Z-RAY PHOTOMETRY
Z-RAY Photometry.
As Z-RAY has interchangeable lenses, and as users are not limited to the lens options supplied by Think Radio, this photometry specification cannot be fully comprehensive.
Think Radio has extensively tested 4 Ledil lenses.
These are Fresnel lenses of approximately 25°, 35° and 60°, a Zorya lens with up to 240°, and without a lens a dispersion angle of 120°.
For maximum localised brightness the 25° Fresnel lens cannot be beaten, however depending on the exact colour used, it is possible that incomplete colour mixing may occur.
If very high localised brightness with complete colour mixing is essential, then the 35° Ledil Fresnel lens may be preferred.
Similarly the 60° Fresnel is every bit as capable, with a wide but still very bright dispersion.
The Zorya lens is rather special. Actually offering a considerably wider dispersion than even the naked LED can offer. Zorya is much more about light as decoration, than light as illumination - however it still offers excellent illumination - in fact. if your objective is a a little background illumination over a wide area, it can sometimes be the best option.
Here are the full technical details of each of these lens, in original form as supplied by Ledil:

Ledil (Frensel) Molly M 35°

Finally, part of the whole ethos of Think Radio is to encourage experimentation, and to make experimentation quick, easy and safe. Many more possibilities exist, particularly with regard to filters, diffusers and gobo's.
Try using polyester drafting film as a diffuser.
Try using printed acetate transparencies.
Try self-made masks/gobo's.
(and try combining all of the above)
And be sure to try out what's possible with 1 (or more) Z-RAY's placed inside other transparent or semi-transparent enclosures.
We've had great fun with very inexpensive IKEA lighting products - stripped of all electrics (safe and ecological disposal if you do this please), so that the IKEA product functions only as an enclosure.
If you come up with something cool or novel - do send us a photo.
