Z-RAY POWER SPECS
ABOUT HOW THAT LED IS POWERED
As proof of Z-RAY's power efficiency - you'll notice that Z-RAY doesn't need an off-switch - its standby mode is so efficient that it's a struggle to measure it's power consumption in standby. A fully charged Z-RAY will happily sit in standby for months.
Even when running the wireless communications, the power consumption is tiny. It will run for days before it needs charging.
Virtually all the power taken from the battery goes into driving that best-on-the-market LED - turning battery-power into light - and not wasting a drop.
There's often a touch of disbelief and how power-efficient Z-RAY is - but we come from a background in mobile communication devices - where no effort is spared to achieve maximum power efficiency.
When not connected to the charger, the battery is well-matched to the power requirements of the LED, so that it can instantly switch from 0 to maximum power output and back to 0 - and do so continuously. And once that battery power is used up, Z-RAY switches cleanly into STANDBY (and a bold LOW BAT message) - it doesn't dim, become slow to respond, tail off, or become erratic - it switches cleanly to STANDBY - and, importantly, usually recovers in seconds when re-connected to a suitable charger (see 'dynamic power path').
When connected to the charger - Z-RAY still delivers exactly the same performance. The secret sauce is what's known as 'dynamic power path'. This ensures that incoming power is first used to support whatever the current demands on the LED are, and second to recharge the battery with any extra charger power available.
Now a word about recharging batteries. It's complicated. We know - we're saying that a lot - but it is! Getting both the maximum performance and maximum lifetime from a rechargeable battery first requires a high-quality battery, and then very careful management of that battery.
The right way do this is with the most modern battery-management system - a sophisticated chip with one dedicated task - ensuring maximum battery performance and lifetime.
In addition, Z-RAY is optimised for fast charging. On a suitable fast USB charger (which is all common fast USB chargers) - even if the LED is being driven to maximum brightness - there will still be ample power available to recharge the battery.
As a rule of thumb, rechargeable devices should recharge at least twice-as-fast as they use the battery. Z-RAY's performance greatly exceeds that.
